INN AT OCCIDENTAL:  ONE OF A KIND
by Millie Howie

“We don’t think there is an inn like ours anywhere,” remark Jerry and Tina Wolsborn, owners of the Inn at Occidental.  Every room has a theme built around personal collections of silver, glass, quilts, and antique toys.
In the main house, built in 1877, there are eight rooms – three of them spacious suites.  Another marvelous assortment of eight accommodations awaits in the Courtyard Building, added to the inn in 1999. Most enchanting of all is the “cottage,” with two full bedrooms, a full kitchen and dining area and living room.  It’s perfect for a family or group celebration.  A wedding party or an alumni gathering might wish to rent the entire Inn, and that, too, is possible.

Jerry and Tina Wolsburn, owners of the Inn since June 5, 2003, have long and prestigious careers in the hospitality industry, and when they began to talk about retirement, they talked bed and breakfast.  “We knew we wanted to be in this area, and started searching about five years ago,” says Jerry.  “We came close a couple of times, but nothing was exactly right till we saw this inn; then we jumped right in.”

Each of the rooms has an assortment of pampering amenities that includes feather or fiber beds, private baths, gas fireplaces, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, and spa tubs for two.  Each morning, guests will find a fresh newspaper at their door and just steps away, complimentary coffee, tea or cocoa.  The Inn offers complete concierge service, and for winter visitors the Inn at Occidental and Osmosis Spa offer a Mid-Week Rejuvenation Package. The package includes a one-night stay at the Inn, an Osmosis enzyme bath treatment and massage for two, followed by a full gourmet breakfast.

And speaking of food, breakfast in the Wine Cellar at the Inn is prepared by Chef Jan Messersmith and typically may offer Inn guests a choice of homemade granola, fresh fruit, fresh baked pastries, smoked salmon hash, pecan waffles, orange pancakes, glazed pumpkin scones or croissant French toast.  Each evening a spread of wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvres is set out in the lobby.

Tina, asked to provide a quick description of the Inn at Occidental responds “”It’s a romantic get-away in an idyllic setting, where you can lose yourself in fantasy.”  For reservations in this setting of fun and fantasy call 800/522-6324; 3657 Church Street, Occidental. You can see all the rooms in radiant color on the Inn’s website: www.innatoccidental.com.
