Whale Festival
March 1 & 2, 2008 in Mendocino (Saturday and Sunday)
On Saturday only, Mendocino County wineries bring their unique vintages for tasting to historic Mendocino Village shops, galleries and inns. A free trolley offers rides to participating merchants and nearby events, like the chowder. There will be music and a special whale documentary.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, three miles north of Mendocino, offers activities for the whole family, including games for kids, whale watching from the headlands, information on the shipwreck Frolic, 1909 Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and annual gray whale migration. Each year, an estimated 20,000 gray whales migrate from Alaska to Mexico and back from December through April.
March 15 & 16, 2008 in Fort Bragg (Saturday and Sunday)
On Saturday only, chowder tasting and beer tasting are available.
On Saturday and Sunday, activities for the whole family at the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, and a craft fair in Fort Bragg.
During both festival weekends you can take a whale watching charter boat from Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg.
